Final Presentation Feedback

Some constructive feedback was given during the final presentation, the key point being possibly opening up the ground plane more to allow free flowing of people in and out of the space.  This could also include the provision of space for stalls to remain set up in their existing location for the festival.  With this is mind it would be good to further investigate these ideas in the future.

W.U.C.E - Master Plan

The masterplan has been finalised including both built infrastructure for the university and festival event locations.  We have also highlighted buildings which street frontage shall be used for markets during the festival.

As well as the masterplan drawing, the group decided to construct a masterplan model to show how the buildings will relate in size to each other and also the land.  BElow are some images of the final master plan model.

W.U.C.E - Self Sufficiency

A key concept and theme of the project is sustainability or more specifically, self sufficiency.  This concept was explored during the group masterplanning process as it is important that the entire university is sustainable and not just individual buildings.  Upon researching and exploring this area, it was determined that Woodfordia itself, and the projected population would not be able to be sustained without crossing the boundaries of the site. Key to W.U.C.E becoming self sufficient is the relationships created between the university and the surrounding community.  As a university, W.U.C.E. has plenty of services to offer as well as resources and knowledge.  On the other hand, the surrounding community produces the food students need to survive.  If a strong relationship can be managed, both W.U.C.E. and the surrounding community stand to benefit immensley from the university. The image below details the groups final approach to self sufficiency.

The key image on the image above is Sustainability Hill.  This concept intruduces a dedicated area for the trial and experimentation of renewable energies (wind, solar etc).  The hill is located at the front of the Woodfordia site which gives a strong message to surrounding and visiting people of W.U.C.E's environmental stand.  It is also located adjacent the existing sewerage plant and maintenance area which also makes the location extremely functional.

For the final presentation it was decided to construct a model in order to best show the building and its context in such a short time.
